Ateneo bucks slow start, rips EAC

Ateneo de Manila University commenced its 2023 V-League Collegiate Challenge campaign with a four-set triumph over Emilio Aguinaldo College, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-16, on Sunday at the Paco Arena in Manila.

 

Locked at nine points apiece in the fourth set, the Blue Eagles orchestrated an 8-0 run to decisively secure the victory. Kennedy Batas contributed two consecutive points during this run, with Anil Pacino culminating it with a service ace.

 

"For a first game, we'll take this win. Kahit there are instances that we were up, biglang hahabol yung kalaban, and then babawiin namin," Ateneo head coach Timothy Sto. Tomas said of the win in this tournament organized by Sports Vision and supported by Bola.TV, Beyond Active Wear, Asics and Mikasa.

 

Setter Enzo Gutierrez emerged as a pivotal factor from the bench, facilitating the involvement of Batas and Jian Salarzon. 

 

Batas concluded the match with 13 points from nine successful kills, while Salarzon delivered the highest score of the game with 18 points, including four blocks.

 

Ervin Osabel led the Generals' efforts throughout the match with 14 points, accompanied by Bryan Cabrera who contributed 11 points, inclusive of two blocks.
