Lyann De Guzman proud to see Ateneo's cohesion

Team effort.

That’s how Lyann De Guzman described Ateneo de Manila University’s dominant semifinal victory over University of the Philippines in the 2022 V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge, Sunday at the Paco Arena.

“Actually, lahat naman kami nag-tulungan lang sa loob ng court,” said De Guzman after the quick 25-21, 25-21, 25-20 win over their UAAP rival.

“Sinunod lang namin si coach [Oliver Almadro] na maging aggressive at gustuhin namin lahat ng ginagawa namin like gustuhin mag-receive, dumepensa, mag-serve, tapos naging aggressive lang talaga sa loob,” she added.

De Guzman led the attack with 15 points built on 13 attacks while middle blocker AC Miner and outside hitter Faith Nisperos added 12 and 11 points, respectively, to help the Blue Eagles reach the finals and remain unbeaten after five games.

Vanie Gandler chipped in 10 points, 10 excellent receptions, and seven excellent digs. Taks Fujimoto dished 16 excellent sets while Roma Doromal contributed nine receptions and eight digs.

Come the finals, De Guzman said that the team will just continue to do what they are doing in hopes of clinching the Collegiate Challenge title.

“Same lang naman, mag-fofocus lang kami sa ginagawa namin, alamin namin yung responsibilities namin sa loob ng court at yung mga roles namin.”
