NU, UST clash for all the gold

National U and UST clash for the V-League Men’s Collegiate Challenge crown in what promises to be a slam-bang duel of power, blocking and style between two of the UAAP top teams at the Paco Arena today (Friday).

Expect the Bulldogs to come up with the necessary adjustments after getting foiled by the Tiger Spikers in their title sweep bid last Wednesday, leading to the do-or-die match at 4 p.m.

But the Tiger Spikers are also raring to re-prove their worth after stopping the Bulldogs in an improbable fashion, rallying from two sets down to steal a 21-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-12 decision in Game 2 of their best-of-three series.

NU took the opener, 25-19, 25-21, 25-19, with the Bulldogs all set to crowning themselves champions again after sweeping the first two sets of Game 2.

But the Espana-based school had other things in mind.

“I told them to take every chance na nandoon sila sa court as a learning experience. Matuto kayo, you can identify what is effective and ituloy niyo. Kung ano yung pagkukulang niyo, i-improve niyo,” said UST head coach Odjie Mamon after the Tiger Spikers shattered the Bulldogs’ nine-game winning streak.

But it will also boil down to experience and poise with the Bulldogs tipped to re-display the form that netted them the Spikers’ Turf crown over a fancied Cignal HD side last October.
