San Beda U roared into the quarterfinals in style, repelling erstwhile unbeaten Perpetual Help, 25-18, 25-22, 20-25, 25-18, and spiking its impressive Pool B campaign with a 3-2 card in the 2022 V-League Collegiate Challenge, Friday at Paco Arena.
Alex Book produced a 16-point game, all but one on attacks, then came through with a game-winning dig, setting up Kevin Montemayor for the kill. Montemayor eventually finished with 12 points on 10 spikes, one block and an ace.
Louie Ramirez paced the Altas with 19 markers on 17 spikes and two aces, while Klint Mateo added 10 attack points but the Las Piñas-based squad uncharacteristically made 37 errors.
The Altas thus joined the Ateneo Eagles at 3-1 with eight match points.
"Sabi ko sa kanila, kapag start ng set, mag-enjoy, dapat masaya lang, na kahit anong mangyari at makapasok tayo ng quarters, NU makatapat, mas magandang kalaro. So, nag-enjoy lang sila sa laro, walang pressure sa 'kin," said San Beda head coach Ariel Dela Cruz after steering the Red Spikers to the stirring win.
