St. Benilde takes women's bronze

College of St. Benilde took care of business and romped University of the Philippines in straight sets, 25-20, 25-17, 25-16, to clinch third place in the 2022 V-League Women's Collegiate Challenge at the Paco Arena on Sunday.m


 


Jade Gentapa showed the way for the Lady Blazers with 17 points on 14 attacks, two service aces, and a block, while Gayle Pascual came through with 14 points of her own. 


 


All-around captain Mycah Go also produced 10 points, eight digs, and six excellent receptions in the knockout bout that lasted for just one hour and nine minutes. 


 


"Masaya buti nakuha pa rin namin 'yung bronze kahit papaano. Laro lang kami, trabaho lang, nakuha namin 'yung third we're very happy," said Benilde head coach Jerry Yee. 


 


Already ahead two sets to none, the NCAA champions did not leave anything to chance as Pascual, Gentapa, Corinne Apostol, and Michelle Gamit linked to give their squad an early dominant 13-3 lead in the third set en route to the sweep. 


 


The Fighting Maroons were led by Stephanie Bustrillo's 10 points.
