Coming off back-to-back losses, University of Sto. Tomas made swift work of San Beda University, 25-12, 25-19, 25-17, to secure the third seed in Pool B action later in the day.
Cassie Carballo steered the Golden Tigresses’ attack with 12 excellent sets on top of two points which both came from the service line.
Ypril Tapia scored a team-high eight points to go along with eight excellent sets and four excellent receptions to hike UST’s record to 1-2 while veterans Camille Victoria and KC Galdones added eight points each in the victory.
“Kailangan pa naming maitama yung mga lapses namin. Pero ngayon syempre, a win is a win. At least nandun kami sa top three ng bracket namin and luckily may chance pa kami makarecover,” said Golden Tigresses head coach Kungfu Reyes.
“Yun naman ang hinihintay namin, kailangan lang namin makarecover back into the groove yung mga bata. Medyo bugbog na yung pakiramdam e, ngayon at least kita namin yung level talaga. Talagang inaaswang lang kami ng mga sarili naming errors,” he added.
Angel Habacon led the Lady Red Spikers, who dropped to 0-3 in the same group to settle for the fourth seed, with 12 points on eight attacks, three aces, and a block.
