Amet Bituin, a champion in high school, is poised to make a significant impact as he embarks on his rookie year with Far Eastern University (FEU) in the UAAP Season 87 Men’s Volleyball Tournament.
Fresh from a successful high school career with FEU-Diliman, where he helped the Baby Tamaraws secure their first-ever championship in Season 85 and earned the Best Opposite Spiker award, Bituin is ready to bring his winning mentality to the collegiate division.
The 19-year-old opposite spiker has set ambitious goals for his transition to the senior level.
“Yung makuha po ‘yung rookie of the year and mag-champion po syempre,” Bituin declared confidently after the Tamaraws' hard-fought four-set victory over Ateneo in the 2024 V-League Men’s Collegiate Challenge last Sunday.
The match, which ended 24-26, 25-22, 25-18, 29-27, saw Bituin contributing 12 crucial points, helping FEU tie with reigning NCAA champion National University at 2-0 in the standings.
Bituin's transition to the college level appears seamless.
“Okay naman po, sa una po may konting adjustment pero nakakasabay naman po. Sobrang ganda po ng sistema at ng brotherhood dito sa pagakyat ko ng college,” he shared.
The young athlete, who also clinched a UAAP Boys’ Beach Volleyball championship, expressed no regrets about his decision to continue with FEU. “Super the best decision po na masasabi kong hindi ako nagsisi na nag-FEU ako, na tumuloy ako sa college sa FEU,” he added.
A significant factor in Bituin’s decision to stay with FEU was the camaraderie he shares with his high school teammates. “Unang una, kami po talaga as a team. Kasi ‘yung mga kasama ko grumaduate po galing kami ng champion team sa juniors so nag-decide po kami na we will move as one sa college kasi iba po talaga kapag magkakasama kami,” he explained. The bond and shared history with his teammates have bolstered his confidence as they all step up to the senior ranks together.
Despite the high expectations, Bituin remains grounded and focused on his performance. “Wala po akong ipapangako, basta gagawin ko na lang po ‘yung best ko and kung ano ‘yung ipapagawa ni coach sakin,” he said.
