Ateneo zeroed in on a quarterfinal berth as it repelled FEU, 19-25, 28-26, 25-18, 25-21, to hike its record to 3-0 in Pool B of the 2022 V-League Collegiate Challenge on Friday at Paco Arena.
Abai Llenos and Kalle Blomstedt took over in the fourth frame as the Eagles completed their fightback from a set down on a lackluster showing marred by miscues in the early going that enabled the Tams to wrest control before barely yielding the tense second set duel.
Llenos scored 13 points to go with 12 excellent receptions, while Blomstedt added eight points, including two kills in the stretch, for the Eagles, who ended up with 32 errors.
Dryx Saavedra led the Tams with 13 points on 10 spikes, two blocks and an ace as JJ Javelona was held to eight markers by Ateneo’s tough defense upfront.
"I’m very happy that the team performed well despite the slow start lalo na nung pinull out ko yung dalawang starters ko na si Jian (Salarzon) at si Amil (Pacinio)," said Ateneo mentor Timothy Sto. Tomas, whose wards moved closer to the next phase.
