For Tina Salak, rookie outside hitter Barbie Jamili has already contributed so much in Far Eastern University’s volleyball program.
According to Salak, the 5-foot-5 Jamili serves as an inspiration for an undersized Lady Tamaraws side because of her fighting spirit despite her small frame.
“Personally sa akin, ang laki nung na-contribute ni Barbie doon sa program,” said Salak after FEU scored its first win in the 2022 V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge against San Sebastian College-Recoletos on Friday.
“Magandang inspiration din yun for everyone na not because ‘di siya gifted sa height, pero skills matters talaga so angat na angat doon sa iba. Actually lagi kong best example ‘to e kapag training. Yun yung nakikita ko na para ma-motivate rin yung iba so malaking bagay talaga siya sa program,” she added.
Jamili scored 11 points built on 11 attacks to help the Lady Tamaraws take a 15-25, 25-14, 25-10, 25-16 win over the Lady Red Spikers and clinch the third seed in Pool A.
The 19-year-old spiker from Cebu said that she is still adjusting to her new team but promised to work on her consistency here in the V-League.
“Pagtatrababuhan ko pa po para makuha ko yung consistency ko. Team effort po namin ‘to, thankful po ako sa mga teammates ko kasi nagtutulungan po kami sa court.,” said Jamili.
FEU goes up against the second-seeded team in Pool B in the V-League quarter finals on Friday at 3:00 PM.
