FEU stays alive in semis race, dumps EAC

Far Eastern University revived its semifinals hopes in the 2023 V-League Collegiate Challenge with a convincing three-set victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College, winning 25-21, 25-18, 25-21, on Wednesday at the Paco Arena in Manila.

The Tamaraws finished the preliminary round with a 4-3 record, but their fate hinges on the last two playing dates, with four other teams vying for position and the remaining semifinal berths.

In the third and final set, with the score tied at 20, Dryx Saavedra took control of FEU's 5-1 ending run from the service line, while Andrei Delicana sealed the victory with a solid cross-court kill.

"Siguro 'yung cohesion ng bawat isa, 'yung connection. Tignan mo, kahit sinong ipasok mo, kahit sinong starter mo, kahit sinong sub mo, nagco-connect eh. Kaya tingin ko 'yun 'yung magandang nangyari sa team ngayon," head coach Edison Orcullo said.

All 14 players nominated by FEU for the match saw court action, with Saavedra leading the charge with 16 points, consisting of 15 attacks and a service ace. Setter Ariel Cacao played a significant role with 19 excellent sets and three attacks.

Marvin Romero demonstrated consistency in a breakthrough performance for the Generals, scoring 12 points, all from attacks, while Frelwin Taculog also contributed 12 points and made five excellent receptions.
