College of Saint Benilde's success in NCAA women's volleyball can be attributed, in part, to its impressive depth.
In the 2023 V-League Collegiate Challenge season's second game, the team once again demonstrated this depth as they found a player willing to step up.
Corrine Apostol's absence in the Lady Blazers' match against San Sebastian College-Recoletos required Jessa Dorog to revert to her previous role, an unexpected turn of events.
Despite her uniform being suited for a libero, the coaches asked Dorog to switch back to being a spiker for this particular game.
The Cebu-born student-athlete shared, "I was happy it worked for me today."
Dorog, who also participates in CSB's beach volleyball team, not only performed well but also carried her team to a significant victory against the Lady Stags. She was the sole player fielded throughout the entire match.
The trust placed in her was rewarded with an all-around performance, contributing nine points through six attacks, one block, and two service aces, along with eight digs and seven excellent receptions.
"The coaches always reminded us to stay ready. I was a spiker, so it was not new to me. Given the opportunity to do it again, I grabbed it," she added.
For Dorog, these adjustments are not overly challenging, as she and the rest of the Blazers view each day as a learning process.
"We always maintain a positive mindset and understand that our training has prepared us for every game. We simply apply what we've learned in training to the court."
