National U overcame a second round stumble and went on to annex a 25-13, 23-25, 25-20, 25-15 victory over Arellano U and remain unscathed in three matches in the V-League Men’s Collegiate Challenge at the Paco Arena in Manila on Friday.
Rookie Michaelo Buddin continued to flash top form coming off a sterling showing in the recent Spikers’ Turf, which the Bulldogs ruled over Cignal HD, firing 23 points on 18 attacks and four blocks, while Kenry Malinis added 13 points and skipper Joshua Retamar chipped in 10 points on top of a 16-excellent set performance.
Wing spikers Carl Berdal and AC Guinto steered the Chiefs back in the match with timely hits in the second frame but the Bulldogs toughened up on net defense to stymie the duo in the pivotal third before re-asserting their might in the fourth to pound out the victory, their third straight in Pool B play, and closer to the quarterfinal round.
"We struggled in the second set due to a number of unforced errors. But we were able to recover in the last two sets," said head coach Dante Alinsunurin.
The Chiefs fell to 0-3.
